Wound
Separation is a challenging process we face many times in life whether parting with our loved one, pet or a cherished object. According to the polls, About 51% of the U.S. population uses urns for burial, some rent it, others discard it, or leave it in a corner at home. My project redefines the urn’s role, creating a design that supports both memory and parting.
This urn has two parts, one part holds the ashes and is buried in a meaningful place, while the other is a small, personal memorial object to keep close.
The separation process is symbolized by splitting the urn into two objects. This act leaves a “wound” on the memorial object, marking the emotional journey of letting go.
The urn is made from biodegradable materials, such as stone powder and clay, which decompose within a year.
